Tonight is Samsung’s Unpacked event, where it is expected to unveil the new Galaxy S20 series alongside the foldable Galaxy Z Flip – which will no doubt dominate headlines for a while. So Huawei has jumped in and announced that the Mate 30 Pro, which has long been missing from Brexit island, is coming to the UK at the end of the month.

For those of you who don’t know, the Mate 30 Pro was actually announced and released late last year, making it the first Huawei phone to come without Google Play services. It was also never released in the UK for reasons unknown, and it’s a bit weird Huawei would announce it’s coming now right before we should be hearing about the P40 range. But you know, who the hell knows what goes through the mind of phone companies.

The phone arrives in the UK on 20th February as a Carphone Warehouse exclusive, and pre-orders are set to open today. The phone itself will cost £899, is available in silver, and if you buy it bundled with the Huawei Watch GT 2 you’ll get a free pair of Freebuds 3 wireless earbuds while stocks last.

And that’s basically it. The pre-orders don’t seem to be live at the time of writing, but give it time. And for those worried about not having Google Play, Huawei has confirmed the phone works with third party app-stores (like Amazon’s) to let you download and use popular apps.

It’s not the same as Google Play, but I guess it’s better than nothing.
